FAQ

What are the different message content types in SMS ?

Two SMS messages content types are supported by the Docoon system: ASCII or Unicode. By default, when you send an SMS you use ASCII content type. You can use another content type by specifing it at the send request transmission (Field “contentType” in the structure “Parameter”).

ASCII content type

This content type allows the use of alphanumeric text in ASCII format. It can be up to 160 characters per message.

The following standard ASCII characters are accepted:

  • !”#$%&'{}*+,-./:;<=>?@
  • 0123456789
  • ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
  • abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
  • « Line break » et « space »

As well as the following extended characters (ANSI) to use with caution:

  • ¡£¤¥§¿ÄÅÆÇÉÑÖØÜßàäåæèéìñòöøùü

Unicode content type

This content type allows the use of alphanumeric text in Unicode (UCS) format. It allows to use all the characters not supported by the previous content type. Each character will be encoded on 2 bytes which limits the size of the message to 70 characters.

Unicode characters will be sent transparently to the recipient. The mobile device will decode them to show them correctly. Not all mobile devices are able to interpret all Unicode characters, so the message may not be displayed correctly.

Whatever the media, the result of a transmission is represented by a letter that can take the following values: “S”, “A”, “B”, “C”, “D”, “E”, “F” , “G”, “H” and “Z”. The “S” indicates that the recipient has received the message, the other values indicate that an error has occurred. Each letter has a different meaning depending on the media.
